GPPI students have the opportunity to participate in the Center for Public and Nonprofit Leadership (CPNL)’s nonprofit management certificate program for 3 academic credits. Students will join nonprofit practitioners in a sequence of classes designed to strengthen their leadership and management capacity. The program strives to teach students about the current trends, challenges, and promising practices in nonprofit management. Session topics: Overview of the Nonprofit Sector; Governance; Strategic Planning and Evaluation; Financial Management; Resource and Fund Development; Social Entrepreneurship and Cross-Sector Partnerships; Managing Organizational Change; Human Resources and Volunteer Management; Advocacy in the Public Interest; and Marketing and Communications. In addition to their experiential learning during the classroom sessions, students complete a capstone research project to apply the course skills in a real-world situation. Because the Certificate program attracts current nonprofit practitioners as students and teachers, participation gives GPPI students an excellent opportunity to create a network of local, regional, and national nonprofit leaders.
The Certificate Program is offered in the Spring and Summer. For 2007 dates, please refer to the CPNL website (cpnl.georgetown.edu)
Requirements: GPPI students are required to submit a brief statement of interest to Professor Kathy Kretman at kpk2@georgetown.edu. Preference is given to second-year students and/or students with nonprofit work experience.
