MPM Admissions Requirements

What the MPM Admissions Committee Considers

The Admissions Committee reviews each application for evidence of superior scholastic performance and extensive professional experience. Graduate Record Exam scores are not required for admission. Although an interview is not required for admission, prospective students are encouraged to contact the office to learn more about the program.

Review of the combined record includes the following:

Resume or Curriculum Vitae of applicants must possess a minimum of five years of work experience in a senior track position in the field of policy management. The Admissions Committee may lift part of the five-year senior-track experience requirement for those who have obtained an advanced profession credential such as a Ph.D., MBA or JD.

A list of Professional Affiliations, Memberships, and Community Activities. Strong communication skills, leadership ability, and expertise in one or more policy fields are considered important personal attributes in gaining admission to the Program.

A Personal Statement explaining what unique abilities you would bring to the MPM program and how obtaining this degree will contribute to the attainment of your personal and professional goals.

Academic background including official transcripts of all academic coursework (including any transfer coursework completed while enrolled in a study abroad program).

Letters of Recommendation with at least one being a professional evaluation from a supervisor or colleague who is familiar with your policy management abilities and potential. The Admissions office may contact the evaluators as part of the admissions review.

A Letter of Support from your current employer on your organization's letterhead indicating that your employer is aware of your intention to undertake this program of study and that your organization will provide you with release time from your work responsibilities when necessary to attend classes; and, if applicable, financial support. At a minimum, the letter must indicate your employer's awareness that you will be absent from work to attend classes and fulfill other obligations as may be required. (In general, classes are held in the early evenings and on weekends. However, there are special sessions, held during the summer, that run all day during the Monday-Friday work week. These sessions are typically one to two weeks in duration.)
