Career Advising
Scheduled counseling and advising appointments are available throughout the year. Appointments can involve reviews of self-marketing materials (such as resumes and cover letters), career planning, mock interviews, salary negotiation tips, job search strategies, and more. Workshops on many of these career related skills are also available.
Internship and Job Announcements
GPPI posts internship and job announcements for students and alumni. In addition, GPPI students have access to other listings throughout the University community. To see where 2007 MPP graduates interned and are now working, click here.
Alumni Directories
Students have access to the GPPI online alumni directory and the Georgetown University's Career Network, a database of more than 18,000 University alumni who are willing to serve as informational and networking connections for students and alumni.
Employer Events
Information sessions, panels, and career fairs are offered throughout the year covering a range of career-related issues, employment fields, and special programs.

GPPI also teams with career offices throughout Georgetown University, such as the School of Foreign Service Career Development Center, to maximize the resources available to students.

General
Are internships required? No. Neither the MPP nor the MPM degree requires an internship. However, more than 90% of MPP students and some MPM students complete an internship during the academic year. (See below for more program specific information.)
What opportunities are available for networking with GPPI alumni? GPPI students have access to the GPPI online alumni directory and are encouraged to contact alumni to discuss opportunities in the field, among other topics. In addition, GPPI students can access the University's Career Network to connect with Georgetown alumni who have volunteered to be resources for students and alumni.
What fields do GPPI graduates typically enter? GPPI alumni work throughout the three sectors:
Nonprofit (e.g., public interest and advocacy organizations, trade or professional associations, foundations, research organizations and think tanks, international organizations, and education institutions)
Private (e.g., government or public relations, lobbying, and consulting firms; health, financial, or legal services; media; and applied sciences/technology firms)
Public (e.g., federal/national, state, and provincial/local governments, and multilateral organizations)

Master of Public Policy (MPP)
Where have MPP students completed internships? GPPI students intern throughout the nonprofit, private, and public sectors. See the Internship and Job Announcements section above for specific organizations.
Are most internships paid? The majority of internships are paid. However, many federal government -- such as Capitol Hill, State Department, and White House internships -- and some nonprofit opportunities are not.
What is a typical salary for internships? A good hourly rate for internships is $12-15 per hour. A few organizations pay more; more pay less.

Where have MPM students completed internships? The majority of MPM students hold full-time jobs. Of those who have completed internships, most have been on Capitol Hill, which are unpaid opportunities.
