Transfer of Credit and Course Waivers
After satisfactory completion of at least 12 credits toward a Georgetown degree, a matriculated graduate student may make a written request to transfer credit for applicable courses taken at a) another institution, or b) at Georgetown University prior to admission to a Georgetown graduate program. The number of transferable credits may not exceed 25% of the total number of credits required for the Georgetown degree. For GPPI, this translates into a maximum of four courses at three credits each. Only courses in which the student received a "B" or better (or the equivalent of a "B") may be requested for transfer credit. Finally, courses counted toward a previous degree are not eligible.
Students who meet the program's qualifications are eligible to waive the following courses:
- PPOL 501 - Introduction to Microtheory
- PPOL 502 - Macroeconomics
- PPOL 503 - Public Finance
- PPOL 508 - Statistical Methods for Policy Analysis
- PPOL 509 - Regression Methods for Policy Analysis
- PPOL 517 - Public Policy Process
- PPOL 560 - Ethics, Values, & Public Policy
- PPOL 580 - Public Management OR
PPOL 581 - Comparative Public Management
There is a two step process for approval, which requires submission of a formal waiver request and successful completion of an exam that measures your knowledge in the subject area. Granting of the waiver does not alter the number of credit hours you are required to complete. You must replace the waived course(s) with equivalent hours in elective courses. Only courses in which the student received a "B" or better (or the equivalent of a "B") are eligible to be waived.
